Field Notes

Description:

This is the larva of the Isabella Tiger Moth, about 2" long and with long fuzzy hairs. Often such hairs are urticating (make you itch or hurt) but these don't.

Habitat:

Common in Madrone/oak/Ponderosa pine woods in Oregon. This was crawling about on a Himalayan Blackberry bush.

Notes:

The width of the band doesn't predict the length of the coming winter. Sorry.
