Field Notes
Description:
About once a month, I open the front and back doors of my house, to let some fresh air in, and the old stale air out. On some occasions, a butterfly or some other insect, might come inside my house. In my kitchen, dining room, and one other room, I keep many live plants and flowers. This butterfly, landed on one green plant, two different pots of flowers, the back of a chair, and the right front window. Etc. I was able to take some photos of this butterfly, while it was inside my house. After about two hours, I was able to catch this butterfly, and to set it free. The larvae are horned, spiny, black caterpillars, with red markings. This is a Malachite butterfly.
Habitat:
Mango, citrus, and avocado orchards in Florida; subtropical evergreen or semidecidious forests, in Central America.
Notes:
A butterfly flew inside my house, when I had the front and back doors open. I was airing out my house, for about two hours yesterday.
