Field Notes

Description:

I found this spider on its web. When I saw it, it seemed to be eating something (the green object in front of it in the second and last photos. The legs were red in color with black bands and the body was black. It had a little bit of white on its abdomen. It had 7 legs but I suspect that this spider lost one or amputated it. This spider was quite large. The body (without the legs) was about 2 inches, about 5 cm. The width of the body, without legs again, was about 0.5 inches, about 1.2 cm. The abdomen is thin and is pointed and curved up at the end.

Habitat:

Its web was high up in the trees. It was found in a secondary rainforest in Singapore.
