Field Notes

Description:

"Little Friarbirds form monogamous pairs. Both parents build the nest, a large deep open cup, often see-through, lined with fine grasses and other soft materials, which is always near or overhanging water. The female alone incubates the eggs, but both parents feed the young. Two broods may be raised in a season. Often parasitised by the Common Koel, Eudynamys scolopacea." (Birdlife Australia)

Habitat:

In sparse bushland around the Prison Boab Tree.

Notes:

This would be the female Little Friarbird sitting in this nest. Over the past several days I had been wondering about what kind of nest these little birds have then lo and behold...I finally spotted one! First one that I have ever seen of this lovely little bird.
