Field Notes

Description:

This fly looks very much like the Band-eyed Brown Horsefly (Tabanus bromius), but Wikipedia's article states the distribution areas to be "most of Europe, in the eastern Palearctic realm, in North Africa, and in the Near East."

Habitat:

Spotted resting on our front gate.

Notes:

There is a photo (taken in Poland) of a Band-eyed Brown Horsefly in https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/87701150... It looks identical to the fly in my photo, so much so, that I felt that I could, perhaps describe this fly as "Tabanus sp. nr. bromius", but that would be a stretch too far. Poland is literally on the other side of the World from the Philippines.
