Field Notes

Description:

They measure about 33 cm and have accentuated degree of sexual dimorphism, with the male presenting black head, throat and breast, while in females these body parts are are brown.

It feeds mainly of fruit, such as the embaúba and small coconuts of palm trees, among others. Spits the seeds, being important to disperser of seeds by forests, helping in the recovery of degraded areas. They also eat shoots and insects and I can asure that they also eat eggs of other birds because I saw one attacking a nest.

Habitat:

This species lives in flocks inside the dark forests, where they can remain undetected. In Brazil are found from Bahia and Minas Gerais to Rio Grande do Sul, but are also found in Argentina.

Notes:

The town of the coordinates that I gave for search, is not DUQUE DE CAXIAS, as reports the search map of this page, but PETRÓPOLIS.
