Field Notes

Description:

Tiny nasute termites mend a ruptured tunnel. The workers of these termites are larger than the soldiers, who have pointed snouts through which they spray intruders with acid (or in some cases, glue).

Habitat:

The soldiers line the sides of the tunnel, protecting workers who work inside the lines to build the walls back up. This tunnel led across bare earth to a tree.

Notes:

I could watch these guys for hours. They're amazing!
White ant is a common name, but it really confuses matters, so one should avoid using it. They aren't ants.
