Description:

While this is a common species, I got to observe their interesting behavior today. While briefly at the birding center in Port Aransas, this group of pelicans was seen doing their group feeding behavior. They'd follow each other around and when they got to an area with fish, they'd all form a circle facing the center (photo 1) and then all would dip their bills under at the same time to feed (photo 2)! Pretty fascinating to watch!!!

Habitat:

Large freshwater pond
