Description:

A flock of hooded mergansers in an opening in the ice in Manchester, ME.

Habitat:

James Pond Wildlife Management Area; Small lake with opening in the ice surrounded by populated forest. Picture was taken from roadside bridge that separated wetland/stream area attached to the pond.

Notes:

Other birds of different color within the flock, likely females.
