Ecuador Jumping Spider
-2.15, -77.69
Field Notes
Description:
This is a very small gray with black highlights jumping spider. It has a little spider face that has three vertical yellow stripes on an otherwise black background. The middle yellow stripe continues to near the back of the cephalothorax. The coxa and femur are greenish gray and the rest of the leg is banded gray and black. In pics 1 & 3 it looks like a red patch in the left "armpit." I'm pretty sure that's not "spider lingo" but I don't know what else to call it :-)
Habitat:
As this is the largest family of spiders (6115 species), and with no identification at all, I can't say a lot about it's habitat. This was found in our house in the kitchen floor here in the Amazon rainforest in SE Ecuador.
Notes:
Jumping spiders is an interesting field, but just looking at the sheer numbers of species and lack of much ID on Amazonian arthropods, it's a little daunting. Hopefully a Jumping Spider expert can narrow down the ID a little.
