Field Notes

Description:

Big black bee

Habitat:

Flowers

Notes:

Bumblebees collect nectar from flowers. Adult bees drink nectar and eat pollen. They feed pollen to the baby bees. Queen bees emerge from hibernation in spring and start colonies in old mouse nests or holes. Unlike honeybees, bumblebees make honey pots instead of honey combs. Bumblebees are important tomato pollinators.
