Field Notes

Description:

Very small grey and black speckled fly that uses its wings to attract a mate by propping them vertically and waving them back and forth.

Habitat:

Woodland habitat on a metal bridge.

Notes:

This amazing fly was taken at the same time as my hiking partner, Stephanie R. this past summer. Here photos were so good, I didn't even bother to post mine:) Please check hers out at:

There were several individuals on the warm metal cross pieces of a bridge crossing a creek. Watching them signal was a fantastic experience. This year, I really need to get it on video.
