Description:
A spiny orb weaver that builds its web across trails and open spaces to catch insects. The abdomen is spined to deter predators from feeding on them. Females are 7.5 to 10 millimeters in length, while males are 4.5 to 5 millimeters
Habitat:
Woodland habitat at Bellevue State Park along the Mississippi River.
Notes:
This individual is a female. Unfortunately, I fell prey to her web and she was sitting right on my face. I'm not afraid of them, but it is still an unpleasant feeling. I just gently put her on the leaf, took a couple of pics, and put her on a tree.
