Field Notes

Description:

This big toad measured nearly five inches in length, and about three inches in width. The color was muddy gray-green brown, with black splotches. Lots of warty knobs on its body, but on the parotoid glands there are pinhole-like indentations instead of warts. Eye pupils are horizontal.

Habitat:

I found this toad under a pile of debris behind the house in the rainforest floor, in the foothills of the Maya Mts., western Belize

Notes:

It was sluggish, because it was in a cold spot, but managed to waddle off slowly. Because they're poisonous, they haven't developed speed, I guess.
