Field Notes

Description:

This charming tarantula has a 4" legspan, front to back, toe to pink toe. It is liberally sprinkled with white-tipped hairs, and the front dorsal edge of the abdomen has a rusty tinge.

Habitat:

This spider was living in a pineapple plant top, near the ground next to the rain forest edge on the verge of the Amazon River. You can see the webbing of its lair within the pineapple plant.

Notes:

Sources say it is arboreal, but this and several others here were near the ground. I found this one by daylight, peering up out of the central core of the pineapple plant, then I came back at night to photograph.
