Field Notes

Description:

A beautiful yellow, red, and black orb weaver. The abdomen is spined to deter predators. These spiders build their webs across hiking and game trails to catch insects to feed upon. Females are around 1/4 inch, while the males are approximately 3/8 inch.

Habitat:

Woodland habitat at Bellevue State Park along the Mississippi River.

Notes:

This is one of the most visually appealing spiders that I have seen in my area. My hiking partner, Stephanie, spotted this right after I walked past it. That was before I started wearing glasses:))

Thanks again Caleb! I'm really happy to have Stephanie with me on many of my hikes. Due to my poor eyesight, I would miss many of the things that I am getting to photograph.
Thanks Lauren. I think she is one of the prettiest spiders that I have encountered!
Thank you Sckel! The great thing is that I found the arrow shaped, spined, and white micrathenas all on the same day.
