Field Notes

Description:

The large single specimen, not slimy, is about 4" wide, white, with a short, 5/8" stem. Others have several layers emerging from a common area. The underside is not gilled. In photo 2, you can see stages of growth, starting with a single layer on a short stem. They are fresh in photos 1 and 2. See notes.

Habitat:

These were growing on a damp. decomposing log on a north-facing hill in the rainforest, in the foothills of the Maya Mts. -- see photo.

Notes:

When first spotted, they were soft and flexible. After several days, in photos 3-5, they became tough and stiff.
