Field Notes

Description:

Large vulture overall dark black/brown. Dark red fleshy head and light colored bill. In flight the trailing feathers of the winds appear gray.

Habitat:

Usually spotted flying thermals in hills and fields. Searching and smelling for carcasses. This one was sitting on a rail at a wild duck pond.

Notes:

Possibly waiting for one of the nearby hawks to capture a bird.
