Field Notes

Description:

The fruit body is softy-leathery-spongy to the touch, something like a chanterelle but slightly tougher. Cap diameter is about 6-7cm with a noticeable depression and the center and prominent scales. The gills don't separate from the stem.
--
Amazed how I haven't noticed them before, but they were so conspicuous after the rain! Makes you think how fast do their fruit grow.

Habitat:

Found this growing on some dead wood, during a series of frequent showers here. They somewhat aggregate but the fruit bodies are born on separate stalks.

Notes:

I have a feeling it's Gomphus? maybe G. floccosus?
