Field Notes

Description:

Pale green, cigar-shaped fat little treehopper being tended to by two Camponotus ants.

Habitat:

On a small plant by the side of a waterbody. Neglected, urban residential area. On my morning walk route. I had seen an entire group of ants interacting with cowbug treehoppers a few days back and then both species vanished the next day...but I keep looking just in case they come back. Then, I saw just these two ants tending to just one treehopper. This one is a totally different species.Seem to be having some luck this year spotting ants in interaction with other species.

Notes:

This plant seems to be frequented by ants that interact with all sorts of treehoppers in an opportunistic manner.

The last photo is a severely cropped one...in case someone can please ID the hopper for me.
