Description:

This, some literature says the reddest of European dragonflies, member of dragonfly family (Libellulidae) is also known as broad scarlet, common scarlet-darter and scarlet darter. The male, pictured here, is some 5 cm long with some 7-8 cm of wingspan, and has an all red, scarlet, body, with a darker line along the abdomen. The brown-amber patches at the basis of wings and the dark-red veines at the front of each wing are characteristic for the species.

Habitat:

Widespread on slopes of Jura Mountain Region, around shallow waters of lakes and ponds.
