Field Notes
Description:
This delightful bird was not exactly wild, but it was free to come and go as it pleased, and it pleased to hang around the jungle lodge where I was staying. Its brilliant plumage was a delight, and its actions were even more fun as it vocalized and hung by one foot doing acrobatics in the canopy trees above.
Habitat:
I'm not sure where it was from, but likely nearby in the humid rain forest surrounding the Amazon River in Peru. I think it was a rehabbed bird, recovered from injury or perhaps having been raised in captivity and now released into the wild.
Notes:
This was a "tame" bird, and the lodge owner would call it down out of the trees, whereupon it would fly down and flop down on its back on the grass to solicit a tickle! You could almost hear it giggle.
