Field Notes

Description:

Family: Reduviidae (assassin bugs) Subfamily: Peiratinae (Corsairs) All black with long mouth-part called probiscis. Feeds on other soft-bodies insects. 3/4 inch (15-20 mm) Males are fully winged, females are not.

Habitat:

Woodlands and meadows.

Notes:

Do not handle. Bite will hurt!! Fortunately, I have not experienced an assassin bug bite.
