Field Notes

Description:

The Ruby-throated Hummingbird is a small hummingbird with a slender, slightly downcurved bill and fairly short wings that don’t reach all the way to the tail when the bird is sitting. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are bright emerald or golden-green on the back and crown, with gray-white underparts. Males have a brilliant iridescent red throat that looks dark when it’s not in good light.

Habitat:

Feeder in a wildlife habitat garden. Right on time returning to this feeder. This makes 8 years that a ruby throat has shown up on April 1, or 2 to this feeder.

Notes:

Arrival number 2 - photos through window.

Thanks Ihalleckson, Mayra and gardengaljhg. Boy and girl showed up right on time again this year. Been using the feeders in this cold snap. Makes photos easy :)
