Field Notes

Description:

Close-up of eye of Flathead (fish) in Pic#1 shows they have nice 'eye lashes'. This fish is an ambush predator and usually buries itself into the sand with just the flattened head exposed and most time, they are hardly visible as their colouration is very well camouflaged with the sandy bottom.

A flathead is one of a number of small to medium fish species with notably flat heads, distributed in membership across various genera of the family Platycephalidae. Many species are found in the Indo-Pacific, especially most parts of Australia where they are popular sport and table fish. They inhabit estuaries and the open ocean.

Habitat:

Usually found in sandy patches.
