Field Notes

Description:

Perennials (10-40 cm), which carries the upper part, as a rule, 4 sheets crosswise arranged in whorls. Leaves are without petioles, elliptic-lanceolate in shape, up to 10 cm long. 4 outer leaves lanceolate in shape, light green, and 4 inside the linear, half as long and yellowish-green. Stamens usually 8, the fruit is a blue bean.

Habitat:

It prefers calcareous soils and lives in damp and shady places, especially old established woods and streamsides
