Description:
Man o' wars are not jellyfish, but are siphonophores. This means they are a colony of minute individuals that must stay together to survive. The part that floats on top of the water is gas-filled, and tentacles that hang under the water are typically 30 ft, but can be up to 165 ft!
Habitat:
They can be found anywhere in the open ocean, mostly warm oceans. They cannot move about by themselves, and are carried around by winds and ocean currents. They commonly wash ashore, and we saw many small ones on the beach.
