Field Notes

Description:

It is a small thorny shrub, almost a small tree. It is early spring and it is the first one with flowers. The bark is very dark and the fruit (sloe) is dark-bluish. The fruits are used in the north of Spain to make Pacharán, a very nice liqueur.

Habitat:

Spotted at an open oak forest. Reserva de la Biosfera del Real Sitio de San Ildefonso-El Espinar.
