Field Notes

Description:

Zammara is a genus of cicadas. They are large cicadas that are generally bright blue-green in color.

The other ones I have seen either alive, or in photos on the web, mostly seem to have black eyes. I think that the red eyes on this one are spectacular...

Habitat:

Zammara are found in the Neotropics, especially in equatorial regions, where they live in tropical forest habitat.

Notes:

I saw a similar one from Costa Rica, but with black eyes, in 2013 - http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/43849051
