Have to admit I didn't quite know what the +5 meant. Accuracy? Will change as suggested! Thanks again!
No, both can show some reddish glim. Only a view of the underside can really help. I admit, I would tend to Amphinome as well as I did from the beginning. But knowing another similar species which looks similar/identical we should be serious and tell this one Hamadryas sp. with a possible ID as Hamadryas amphinome or Hamadryas arinome. Sorry, I still can't make a "+", although already 5 are there ;-))...
Does the slightly reddish color on the dorsal surface tell you anything in terms of species id?
Will check to see if I have a ventral view with the big lens--there was another cracker butterfly there with no white on the upper wings but I didn't get a good pic of it.
Thank you, bayucca for looking into this one. :-)
Give me a ventral view of this one and I would love to confirm Amphinome. But it could also be Hamadryas arinome ariensis. Amphinome and Arinome looks identical from the dorsal side, and until now nobody could tell me the difference between the two. So you need a view of the underside to be sure of the species: http://butterfliesofamerica.com/hamadryas_arinome_arienis_live1.htm
Beautiful butterfly.
