Yes, endemic to Queensland, and vulnerable, mostly because of land clearing I would think. That's something we do well in this country, but detrimental to all.
Thanks Neil.So this species is Endemic to Queensland and is Vulnerable in status.
Update ID suggestion. This is the local species - Macleay's Fig Parrot, and it occurs in southeast Queensland. The red cheeks vs pale cheeks are most likely male and female variations.
OK, this is not the correct subspecies, although Cyclopsitta diophthalma is correct. The soft-coloured cheeks minus the red is a bit confusing. Local subspecies in southeast Queenland have red cheeks, whereas your spotting doesn't.
It is also named as a dwarf parrot which is so appropriate and it was in the vicinity of fig trees. We also had many bats out here.
It was totally wild.I agree with the ID and updated it.
Hema, you said you were in Cairns. If you saw this bird in Cairns, it's most likely a subspecies of Double-eyed Fig Parrot , hence the ID suggestion. Check out the wikipedia link to see if you recognise it. Theres a decent photo of this subspecies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-eyed_fig_parrot
Neil,it is correctly posted on the map.
Looks like a fig parrot species, or even a rosella species, of which there are many. Is the map location correct?
Neil,I think I will slow down in the postings till I get the correct LAtitude and Longitude figured out. This one was seen in a place call Surfers paradise.
