Field Notes

Description:

This is the most valuable of our native cherries and the largest. It is the woodworker's delgiht; its strong fine-grained wood, with red color that darkens with age and a surface that takes on a high quality finish. It was plentiful but as a lumber tree it was methodically cut from forests making it scarse (especially large trees).
