Field Notes

Description:

They have a white underside and black wings and neck that extends onto the top of the head and makes a ring around the eye. They have a straight, black bill and long, pink legs.

Habitat:

Found in the eastern and central portions of the US, and as far south as northern South America. They can be found in fresh or salt water areas.
