Field Notes

Description:

A mating pair of Common- or Eastern Ribbonsnakes spotted in the central wetland area at Huntley Meadows Park. The mating process was already underway when I first saw the pair of snakes; they were still "engaged" when I left the park a couple of hours later. The larger snake is the female; the smaller snake is the male. "Females are slightly larger than males..." Thanks to Neil Dazet, Project Noah Ranger, for verifying my speculation that size difference indicates gender for this species.
