Common Ribbonsnakes (mating pair)
Thamnophis sauritus sauritus
38.7577, -77.0984
Field Notes
Description:
A mating pair of Common- or Eastern Ribbonsnakes spotted in the central wetland area at Huntley Meadows Park. The mating process was already underway when I first saw the pair of snakes; they were still "engaged" when I left the park a couple of hours later. The larger snake is the female; the smaller snake is the male. "Females are slightly larger than males..."
