Description:

This is a spider, although it took me awhile to decide that. The front legs are the giveaway. This shiny black creature was about 3/8" long, and was perched on a palm leaf. In photo #3, you can see some of the webbing it made as it turned around.

Habitat:

It was spotted on a palm leaf, in a moist rainforest on the Macal River in western Belize. It wasn't on an orb web, but perched on the upper side of the leaf, and I saw its silhouette through the leaf.

Notes:

I've revised my opinion that this was a Micrathena quadriserrata, due to two suggestions and a review of info. I appreciate the the help. Thanks.

I think also this is Micrathena triserrata instead.
Try Micrathena triserrata, but I am not sure.
