Field Notes

Description:

An insect nest made of mud. The entrance was about 1 inch wide and the whole mound was about 3-4 inches high. I assume it’s some sort of mud dauber wasp nest, but I don’t know.

Habitat:

Wetlands.

The mud dauber wasp builds tube-like nests instead of digging. It looks like this nest is dug up on the ground. Insects also do that, but perhaps not in wetland areas.
