Field Notes

Description:

The shells are usually reddish in color and have a moderate to large size, reaching a height between 1.0 and 60 cm. The shells are spindle-shaped and biconic. The spire is elongated. The siphonal canal is well developed and is long to moderately long. The columella varies between a smooth appearance and showing spiral folds.

Su concha es muy resistente, puede llegar a alcanzar los 7 centímetros de longitud y su forma es fusiforme alargada, con el ápice agudo y unas 8 vueltas de sutura ornamentadas por tubérculos distribuidos en espiral. La abertura es elíptica con el canto afilado y el canal sifonal es alargado. El color de su concha es blancuzco y el animal es rojizo o marrón con manchitas claras.

Habitat:

Costa rocosa de Cabo de Palos.
Es una especie que vive en el infralitoral, sobre los fondos rocosos con movimiento de aguas moderado y buena iluminación.
