Field Notes

Description:

Charadrius alexandrinus is very small plover, about 15 cm in length. It looks uncomfortably alike all other plovers, especially when not in the breeding attire: brown above and cream-white below, small and fast moving... However, the ID key is said to be the following: Kentish plovers have a rather thin, short and slightly pointed bill, and darker green-grey legs. Finally, this seems to be a juvenile bird, judging by the extent of white on the face and front.

Habitat:

This is a common and cosmopolitan shorebird, observed foraging at the beach near Cox's Bazar. The beach in question is at the bottom of hills of Himchari NP, and it was a source of the best and richest birdwatching (or nature-watching in general...) day while I was in the area.
