Field Notes

Description:

This small bug was about 8 mm long with greenish brown body and pale jade coloured underside. The outer margins of the thorax and lateral margins of the abdominal segments were also a pale green, making this a very attractive little bug. The most fascinating feature in this bug is the very long and apparently flexible proboscis (seen in Pic 3).
The bug was seen near a small garland of pale jade green eggs (Pic 4)

Habitat:

Spotted wandering amongst leaf litter in a roof guttering near the eggs that were laid on the outside of the gutter.
Most gardens in the area have pittosporum trees.

Notes:

Nymphs feed on Pittosporum leaves.

Family: Pentatomidae
Subfamily: Pentatominae

all others seem to have migrated to New Zealand !
That proboscis is extraordinary! Is this only the second one found in Victoria?
