Field Notes

Description:

The birds collects straw for the nest. The adults feed largely on seeds. It easily cracks cherry stones with its powerful beak and eats the core contents. It does not eat the fruit. In the spring, it also eats a number of buds and insects. The bird measures 18 cm and is strongly built. Otherwise, it has a black mask through the eyes and a black bib. The female is slightly less marked in the drawings.

On a newly sown cornfield.
