Field Notes

Description:

Crossing an asphalt pathway, with nothing but very flat ground for a hundred or so metres. A very 'tall' cephalo-thorax and relatively tiny abdomen. I also thought it could be viewed the wrong way around. About 18mm long.

Habitat:

Suburban pathway.

Notes:

Wolf spiders seem to have mostly flat cephalothorax?

Thanks guys... how often do these seemingly ordinary spottings turn to something tricky.
It does look a lot like a wolf spider, not a salticid but it also looks a little like a mimic of some sort. Nice find
Amazing!! I love the lighting which really brings out the detail on this spider!
Thanks for that Atul. It was probably way too big for a salticid (but it did some impressive jumps) - I'll get to searching for it soon...
Looks like a Wolf spider ...Family Lycosidae surely not a Salticid :)
I'm so glad someone else sees it that way. Thanks Lauren... yes the legs too :-)
If a bug wants to hide BEHIND the spider, it'll get a head-on surprise! :)))
This is really neat! Even the leg insertion pattern looks backwards!
