Description:

Female heavy with eggs. The rough skinned newt can be toxic if eaten. A fatality in Oregon has been recorded after a newt was ingested

Habitat:

forest clearing: cultivated garden/ water garden

There are some stories about people dipping water from a slow moving stream to boil for coffee... always thought they were apocryphal, but then I read the snippet about a verified death...
