Description:

These were dotted around the base of a tree stump. They were approximately thumbnail sized.

Habitat:

Lower tree stump, beside a path in Zealandia EcoSanctuary.

Yup, a Stemonitis species. You need a microscope to tell which one I think.
Here's one I spotted ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/5190005 ), look at the forth photo to see the stalked morph, this happens when it is changing to produce sporangia. Also, this photo: http://tywkiwdbi.blogspot.com.au/2011/11/slime-mold.html
