Field Notes

Habitat:

Along an abandoned railroad grade.

Notes:

Boxelder flowers. Boxelders are either staminate (pollen-producing) or pistillate (seed-producing) plants. The staminate flowers are the ones with the long pinkish strands (these are the stamens and anthers) and the pistillate flowers look like miniature seeds.
