Field Notes

Description:

These small orb weavers are common all over Southwest Florida.

Habitat:

Sub-Tropics

Notes:

These spiders are not venomous to humans, but they have been known to cause heart attacks when people accidentally run into the webs and are surprised by this spider's psychedelic pattern up close. The purpose of its pattern is to discourage birds and lizards from eating it and may also be used in mate selection.
