Field Notes

Description:

This tiny "bug" (likely a hexapod, so not an insect precisely) is less than 1/8" long; it jumped off of a mushroom I brought into the house.

Habitat:

On mushrooms in a temperate rain forest.

Notes:

The second photo is of some Galerina mushrooms; the mushroom bug can be seen in profile on the top of the cap on the left. The suggestion of id as a globular springtail seems likely.

Come to think of it, it did disappear mighty quickly--those springtails really take off. I've only seen springtails in huge colonies/masses; I'm guessing globular springtails are different?
It's a Globular Springtail http://bugguide.net/node/view/258368
Young Psocidae maybe?... it seems Galerina-proof anyway. Interesting.
