Description:

Apodichthys flavidus is distinguished by the dark bar below each eye. This one was about 8 in. (20 cm) long. Highly reflective maroon color. This species also exist in shades of green and brown. It commonly takes on the color of the vegetation it inhabits. The penpoint gunnel can breathe air when out of water. Video: https://youtu.be/Qn1nkRNwsaY

Habitat:

Spotted in a tide pool at Tongue Point. Ranging from Kodiak Island in the Gulf of Alaska to Santa Barbara Island in southern California.

Notes:

Penpoint gunnels feed on small crustaceans and mollusks.
