Field Notes

Description:

Large daytime flying moth. Forewings are a yellow-white and hind wing is yellow orange. The body is yellow orange with bands of black with orange hair. Black spots with black line markings and black streak on the edges of the wings. Antennae is orange.

Habitat:

Found feeding on nectar of coffee and snowberry plants at high elevations of the Sierra Mountains.

Thanks all for the favorites. When I first saw this I thought it was a butterfly. It took a long time till it would stop flying and be in view. Many times it would fly inside the plants. Also my first thought it was like the Western Sheepmoth I got over a year ago and saw the pattern didn't match. I am excited to get a new species for me and I love the pattern on the wings as though it looked like someone one drew on it.
