Description:
A thick layer of spit sandwiched between two leaves.The spittlebug nymphs make bubbles out of a liquid they secrete ; it is not really saliva or spit. They get their name because the foamy substance looks like spit.The spittle protects them from predators, temperature swings and dehydration.
Habitat:
We were miles from anywhere... at least three hours away from the coordinates of the nearest city. The road ahead was being repaired and the workers would not let us pass till the tarring was complete. We got out of the car and that is when I saw this.
