Field Notes

Description:

length 18" Wing Span 36". Grayish above mostly white below, owl like face, body slim, wings long & narrow . This bird fits the description of a female.

Habitat:

Common in wetlands & open fields. They perch low & fly close to the ground, wings upraised, searching for birds, mice, frogs etc.

Notes:

Seen in Penasquitos Canyon park 2 mi from ocean hovering low over open grasslands near to a stream
